Chapter 10

Once Georgia and I arrived, Dawson asked one of the cocktail waitresses to watch the bar while he spoke with us. He led us up the stairs to a small office next to a much larger area used for storage. Georgia logged into her laptop and pulled up the email she’d received that evening.

“The email you just received has been routed through the same internet site as the one previous to this one,” Dawson said. “I’ll still be unable to isolate the physical location the email was sent from, but I may be able to do something with the hashtag. I find that once someone identifies with a certain handle, they tend to stick with it across platforms.”

Colt hadn’t arrived yet, but I did get a text letting me know he was on his way, so I texted back and let him know we were upstairs in the office.

“Viewed but unseen has been used as a hashtag by three Twitter users in the past thirty days,” Dawson informed us.

Colt walked in, and I quickly caught him up.

“Can you isolate the users?” Georgia asked.

Dawson nodded. “Just give me a minute.” He typed in a bunch of commands. “The tweet where this hashtag has most recently been used was posted by a user named Supra Malloy.” He typed in a few more commands. “Supra’s account is registered to a user based in southern Nevada.”

“That’s probably not our guy since it feels as if this person actually sees me in an up close and personal sort of way,” Georgia said.

Dawson began typing again. It was several minutes before he spoke. I smiled at Colt, who looked exhausted. I wanted to ask him what had caused the look of fatigue in his eyes but didn’t want to interrupt the flow of the current situation.

“The second user to have used the hashtag goes by the name Avalanche 420. He or she seems to be based in Colorado.”

“Also, not our guy,” Georgia groaned. “Maybe the third time is a charm.”

Dawson began typing again. “I think we have a hit. User number three to have used this specific hashtag goes by the name Veiled Shadow. The physical location associated with this user is Bangor, Maine.”

“That has to be our guy,” I said. “Can you find out who Veiled Shadow actually is?” I asked. “I mean, his or her real name.”

“Hang on.” Dawson continued to type. After several minutes, he sat back in his chair. “Milton Ronan.”

Georgia frowned. “Milton Ronan? I have no idea who that is. As far as I know, there isn’t anyone working at the television station with that name.”

“Maybe you really do have two stalkers,” I suggested. “One who works for the station who has access to computers both in Bangor and Hartford, and another who lives in Bangor but isn’t associated with the television station.”

“If they weren’t associated with the television station, how would they even know who I was?” Georgia asked.

“You are on television,” I pointed out.

“Well, yes, I guess that’s true.
